After twenty years of grading with points, bonus points, and weighted points, it's now clear the points don't matter! This school year began with a new focus on "Grading for Learning". This approach focuses student learning through grade reporting solely in terms of proficiency with the Physics ILOs and Standards. This strategy quickly led to a new sense of empowerment for both students and teacher. Instead of students asking what can they do for points to raise their grade, students now ask for help in terms wanting to better understand specific science concepts. This session will share a method developed to move from mere point collector to proficiency assessor which ultimately has changed the mindset of students and this veteran teacher.
